Meet The Team: Chris Platt, Senior Timber Frame Designer

We’re pleased to announce that our team has expanded, as Chris Platt recently joined us. We’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Chris for a number of years. Chris’ role as Senior Timber Frame Designer will see him producing accurate and detailed timber frame construction illustrations.

Chris will be working closely with our design team and customers to ensure all aspects of the design are considered before they’re manufactured. We asked Chris a few questions about his experience, his goals and why he chose to work with us.

How long have you been working in your field?

I have been working in the Timber Frame industry for over 14 years, after completing a BTEC in Construction and Building at Camborne College in sunny Cornwall. My career began at a small Timber Frame Design company in St Austell. I then started my own business as a Timber Frame Designer working alongside a Structural Engineering company. I was self-employed up until September 2021 when I joined Paramount Timber Frame, having previously worked with the team.

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?

Professionally, I’m most passionate about working on the projects which challenge me. During my career I’ve had the privilege to be involved with some fantastic causes, one being a project for the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust, which was sited at the Eden Project, a popular eco tourist destination in Cornwall.  Personally speaking, it was great recently to see the finishing touches being added to a rear extension of our home that my Wife and I designed! My life doesn’t solely revolve around design though, I’m also an avid football supporter and player! I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends.

What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?

I ran my own design company successfully for 13 years and during that time I was asked to take the role of Lead Designer for many different timber frame companies. I worked on a huge variety of builds across the UK, with various techniques and methods of construction. I’m now excited to be part of the forward-thinking team at Paramount.

What attracted you to the Timber Frame industry?

I believe it has a bright future. With the global push for energy efficient homes and carbon neutral goals, the timber frame industry presents a method of construction which is sustainable and cost effective, and I’d like to be involved in the progression of the industry going forward.

What’s your biggest accomplishment?

Building good working relationships with various clients and friends throughout the industry and being involved in exciting projects. The most rewarding project I’ve been involved in was a project for DIY SOS, where a group of local companies and individuals came together to help a kind and caring family in need.

What attracted you to the role at Paramount Timber Group?

I’ve worked with the team at Paramount for several years, so have got to know them and the way they work well. When they talked about their plans and their goals for the future, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
